PS: Which were your favorite characters to dress?
RC: Definitely the barbershop guys. When Eddie came out of makeup as the old Jewish guy, I thought, "OK, I can check that box." I was having a moment. He was looking over at us, walking like the old guy, and it just blew my mind. Old people don't throw anything away, so we [dressed him in] some really old shoes and polyester pants and went vintage with his shirt, a little bit on the '70s side. It was very similar to how he looked in the first movie.
PS: How did you distinguish between the new and old Queens aesthetic?
RC: The cornermen were steadfast — they didn't change. Every once in a while, you'll go into a neighborhood and there's a Starbucks and a Gap and all these new places, but then there's one place that's the same. It was important to the story that the energy of Queens had changed, but the people that we know and love are still alive and well.

PS: Where did you source the jewelry? KiKi Layne looks amazing in the movie.
RC: I used a lot of jewelry designers: Appetite Of A Millionaire, Laurel DeWitt, Loza Maléombho . . . everything was custom-made. I have a list of about 40 different African designers and jewelers that we went out to. Sewit Sium did [Layne's] nose ring and Nefertiti earrings. It was KiKi's idea to have the nose septum ring that she wears. She wanted her jewelry to be very unique.
PS: Did you create any merch with Akeem's face on it?
RC: We did! We also had some agbadas, the celebratory African drapes with prints of their leaders. We put Akeem's face on several things: flags, T-shirts. We just can't sell them afterwards, because they have Eddie Murphy's face on them. [Laughs]
PS: You did however design a limited-edition bottle of Crown Royal ($25), which will be available to purchase.
RC: I immediately knew that I wanted to dress the box in a royal print with a 3D-printed lion head in the center. We also used the tribal print from Akeem's tapestry to create the pouch that the bottle is encased in. That's a collector's item!
