The Fashion World Remembers André Leon Talley

Paying tribute to Talley, Marc Jacobs wrote on his Instagram, "I am in shock.

You championed me and you have been my friend since my beginning. Our chats, the moments we shared….oh my friend.

You and your passions were larger than life.

I love you and I will miss you dear Andre.

Elaine Welteroth shared a beautiful tribute on Instagram that reads: "Larger than life. Living legend. Icon. These are terms tossed around lightly these days. But they befit so few. For my generation, and let's hope generations to come, @andreltalley epitomizes all of these and much more. His passing leaves a gaping hole one can never fill, so we hold this space for all the flowers he deserved while he was here.

While there is much to say about all he endured along his journey and the complicated story he leaves behind, let us lay him to rest draped in the dignity he is due for paving a path that made space for people like me and many others.

Though the world will remember his contributions to the industry from his proverbial throne at @voguemagazine, it was his lesser-known early days at @ebonymagazine where he got his start that inspired me to follow in his footsteps by beginning my career there, too, working among our own. Whenever I questioned my path in those early days, I looked to his history and his presence to give me a sense of pride and permission to pursue my purpose in an industry so few of us were given space to succeed in.

The designer paid tribute to his late friend with this statement on Instagram: "I am knocked out by the passing of my friend André Leon Talley. He was a remarkable human being full of strength, style, smarts and humor. André was the memory of fashion. He was an inspiration and friend to me and so many others. RIP, the one and only A.L.T. -MK"

"A legend lost. Andre a forever icon who changed the game for so many. Thank you for all the support," designer Christian Siriano shared in a statement on Instagram.

Enninful paid tribute to his friend on Instagram with a caption that reads: "R.I.P dearest Andre. Without you, there would be no me. Thank you for paving the way 💔".

Yara celebrated Talley's legacy with this post on her Instagram: "André Leon Talley 🕊

Former editor and author Amy Odell remembered Andre in an Instagram tribute, writing, "Many tributes to André Leon Talley are coming out across social media and my sense having interviewed him over the years is that he would have loved all of them. I had the opportunity most recently to speak with him last year for my biography of Anna Wintour coming out in May. He was unbelievably generous with his time, talking to me for hours, and hearing his stories was like listening to a podcast you just don't want to end. One of the things he loved doing in his career was hosting the Met Gala red carpet videos for Vogue. Here he is on the red carpet in 2011, the year the famous Alexander McQueen exhibit opened. Rest In Peace, André and thank you for all the times you helped me when others in this industry would not have."
