The Skims waist cincher is designed to "snatch" your waist using core compression and spiral steel boning that helps create an hourglass figure. The straps are removable and the front zipper is invisible underneath clothing. While board-certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Pamela Mehta, MD warns against exerting yourself physically while wearing one, since "these garments force your torso into a rigid position" and actually squeeze your organs, I do feel like the compression is energizing and enforces better posture while I'm sitting at my desk wearing it. But be forewarned: "A too-tight cincher can slow digestion, worsen acid reflux, and cause bloating or cramping. Circulation can also be affected, particularly if the garment digs into your waist or hips, potentially leading to numbness or tingling in your legs," according to Dr. Mehta.
