Sara Bareilles Swaps Diamonds For Feathers With Whimsical Engagement Ring

Sara Bareilles is officially writing her love story, and she has the best ring to show for it. The 43-year-old singer-songwriter announced her engagement to longtime partner and actor Joe Tippett in a Jan. 1 Instagram post, showing off an whimsical ring that matches her free spirit. Instead of boasting a huge diamond or a glittering pavé band, Bareilles's ring is a delicate gold feather, proving that not every ring has to be dripping in jewels to make a statement. "Yes to marrying this man. It's an easy, earned, relaxed YES," Bareilles wrote in her caption.

Bareilles's Instagram is filled with all kinds of adventures she and Tippett have gone on, including riding through Mexico City in hot air balloons and chasing the Northern Lights on snowmobiles. Her ring is a physical representation of that easygoing love, with feathers typically symbolizing freedom, honor, and strength. Fine jewelry designer KATKIM previously told POPSUGAR that "alternative and unconventional engagement rings have been hugely popular" in recent years.

Bareilles met Tippett on the set of "Waitress" back in 2015, where she was composing the score for the musical. (He was playing the role of "Earl," the husband of the show's main character, Jenna.) In 2017, the two made several public appearances together, which finally solidified their relationship status to the public. "What a gift you are," Bareilles wrote to Tippett in her engagement announcement. "Onward into absolutely everything with you." See Bareilles's wonderfully unique ring ahead.
