Just call Viola Davis the queen of comfort. After becoming my personal hero for wearing sneakers on stage to present an award at the Emmys on Sunday night, the How to Get Away With Murder actress stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live this week where she further explained — not that we actually needed an explanation, of course — what led to her bold fashion choice.

"I knew I had to present. So I thought I was going to hobble on stage to the podium and just announce the supporting actor," she said after jokingly pointing out that she walks "like Frankenstein" when she wears high heels. "But then I found out I had to walk through the presentation — I said, 'Hell no, oh hell no.' I said I will only do it if I can wear my sneakers, and I wore my sneakers."

Viola started off the night wearing a black-and-white Alberta Ferretti gown and Stuart Weitzman pumps on the red carpet, but she ditched the heels mid-ceremony for a pair of shiny silver sneakers. When Jimmy asked her who could've stopped her from making the switch, she replied, "Nobody, because I was ready to fight." Watch Viola's full interview above.
