Cheer: Here's What the Athletes Featured in Season 2 Are Doing Now

There are plenty of familiar faces in season two of Cheer, now streaming on Netflix — but the filmmakers also introduce some new names, as they turn the cameras to Navarro's cheer rivals at Trinity Valley Community College. The season gives fans a front row seat to the squads' practices as they gear up for Daytona in early 2020 — only to have the national championships cancelled due to COVID-19 — and then finally, as they make their triumphant return to competition a year later.
Of course, the fact that filming took place over nearly two years means that many of Navarro's star cheerleaders have moved on to other things, and with the addition of TVCC this season, you may be curious where each of the athletes (new and old) have landed since the cameras stopped rolling earlier this summer. Fortunately for you, we have answers. Keep reading to find out what the crew from Cheer season two is up to now.
Where Is Morgan Simianer Now?
Morgan Simianer graduated from Navarro in 2020 amid the COVID-19 pandemic, ending any chance she had of returning to Daytona. On the show, she explains that leaving Navarro under those circumstances was especially difficult. "We cried the whole entire night," Simianer says. "I didn't even really sleep at all — and then went to practice, turned in my uniforms, and that was it. That was the end of my cheerleading career." Simianer has amassed more than a million followers on Instagram since first appearing on the show and now has her own collection of hair products with Scunci and Conair, available at CVS.
Where Is Gabi Butler Now?
Gabi Butler returned to Navarro for the 2020-2021 season, with her sights set on another national championship. She finished her time with the Bulldogs after Daytona and is now cheering at Weber State University in Utah. Butler told HollywoodLife in July that she was excited about the prospect of competing with a new team. "I watched Weber and they were just an amazing team and this year they came out with insane skills," she said. "So I really was intrigued and I wanted to learn more."
Where Is La'Darius Marshall Now?
La'Darius Marshall came back to Navarro in the fall of 2020, but ultimately left the team before the competitive season had ended. However, as the final episodes of season two reveal, Marshall did travel to Daytona to support Navarro at the national championships, where he reconciled with head coach Monica Aldama. He's currently coaching young cheerleaders at Cheer Athletics in Pensacola, FL, and explains in the finale that, although he misses his cheer family at Navarro, he has no plans to return.
Where Is Maddy Brum Now?
Throughout the second season, Maddy Brum evolves from a scrappy recruit to one of Navarro's top flyers. In the final episode, Brum says she plans to return to Navarro for another season — and she did just that, recently cheering at what she described on Instagram as her "last ever Navarro football game." When she's not prepping for Daytona 2022, Brum coaches young cheerleaders at Action Spirit.
Where Is Lexi Brumback Now?
Though Coach Monica Aldama initially said tumbler Lexi Brumback would be returning to the Navarro squad to compete at Daytona in 2021, it didn't pan out that way for reasons the show never reveals. Brumback still calls Aldama her queen and is now an influencer with more than 700,000 followers on Instagram.
Where Is Gillian Rupert Now?
In the final episode of season two, Gillian Rupert reveals that she plans to return to Navarro for another season, though her close friend and roommate Cassadee Dunlap wouldn't be making the trip with her. Rupert has been on the sidelines (and the mat) ever since, often posting about the stunts she and her teammates have been working on.
Where Is Cassadee Dunlap Now?
Cassadee split off from best friend Gillian Rupert after the 2020-2021 season, choosing not to return to Navarro. She's now a student and cheerleader at the University of Central Arkansas.
Where Is Jada Wooten Now?
Throughout the season, Jada Wooten is easily one of Trinity Valley's brightest stars, stepping up as a leader in what she knows will be her final year with the team. As the final episode reveals, Wooten has since moved on to Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, TX, where she's a member of the Bearkats cheer squad.
Where Is Angel Rice Now?
Tumbler Angel Rice arrived at Trinity Valley for the 2020-2021 season alongside her brother, Jaden Rice. Both siblings remain on the roster, and Angel continues to stun audiences, both on screen and online, with her legendary skills.
Where Is DeVonte "Dee" Joseph Now?
Tumbler DeVonte Joseph struggles with the performance part of the sport throughout this latest season of Cheer, even telling the crew that he doesn't consider himself a cheerleader. Joseph eventually settles into his role at TVCC, though, and even reveals in the final episode that he plans to come back to compete at Daytona again in 2022. As you can see, he's right at home in the Cardinals' gym.
