Hostess Comes Out With Its Best Flavor Yet: Salted Caramel!

Hostess recently released a limited-edition flavor: sea salt caramel for its cupcakes and Zingers ($3 each). We got our hands on a few boxes to try them out . . . and they are way, way, WAY better than the red velvet flavor we tried early in the year. Better grab a box now, as the sea salt caramel products will only be on store shelves until July 31.

Taste testers declared these salted caramel Zingers are even better than the original — mostly due to the hint of salt on top, which gives them an "elevated" appearance and flavor. The only criticism: the caramel layer isn't very distinguishable, and reviewers struggled to taste the caramel flavor.

These caramel cupcakes taste like moist yellow cake from a box at its finest. The salty granules on top really accentuate the caramel flavoring. Those that didn't enjoy this cupcake claim the cake is too mushy and the filling/icing is way too artificial tasting.
