Ikea Furniture From the 1980s
These Ikea Furniture Pieces Have Been Going Strong For 30 Years
If walking through the perfectly decorated showrooms at Ikea is one of your favorite pastimes, then you've got something to celebrate: the affordable decor retailer is celebrating its 30th anniversary of United States sales this week. Since 1985, Americans have enjoyed inexpensive furniture finds (along with tasty Swedish meatballs) within Ikea's iconic yellow and blue walls — and not much has changed. Sure, decor tastes have changed with the times, but some classic pieces have remained the same. Four notable Ikea offerings have filled catalog pages since the chain's US launch in the '80s: the Lack sidetable, Poäng chair, Klippan loveseat, and Billy bookcase.
Check out these throwback photos of classic Ikea pieces circa 1985, then enjoy their modern updates. And no, your eyes aren't fooling you — these pieces are all more affordable today than they were 30 years ago!
