Fixer Upper Fans Are Going to Be Furious Over This Scathing Chip and Joanna Cartoon

Mad Magazine is known for its satire, and in some ways being mocked in the long-running comic magazine is a compliment, but if you're a Fixer Upper fan, it's hard not to feel a little defensive about the scathing cartoon in issue 541. Beneath a headline of "Fixer Huskters" (which is a negative term for a door-to-door peddler or small-goods hawker), artist Tom Richmond and writer Dick Debartolo mock the opening sequence of the HGTV show in which Chip and Joanna Gaines — here a very unflatteringly portrayed "Flip and Go-Go Games" — explain the concept of the show. The text in the dialogue bubbles implies that the couple is dumb, self-serving, and money hungry. Further making this point are the price tags attached to everything around them. If the cartoon is bothering you, take a cue from Chip and don't let it. The good-humored father of four actually retweeted the cartoon himself!
