NYC Christmas Light Switch
The 1 Amazing Thing You Never Thought to Do With String Lights
New York City during Christmastime is unquestionably one of the most beautiful sights. While citygoers are used to the towering glow of the Rockefeller Center tree and the iconic display windows on Fifth Avenue, none were prepared for this gorgeous string-light display. As people walked up to a seven-foot-tall light switch placed in a plaza at Bleecker and Carmine streets, curiosity inevitably took over, and what they saw was delightfully shocking: over 50,000 lights immediately turned on as the switch was flipped.
It's not magic, although it sure appeared that way. The setup was made possible by Improv Everywhere and Target, and it took plenty of volunteers, planning, and of course, string lights — over three miles of them! The lights were placed in the trees, throughout the plaza, and on the actual volunteers, who watched the switch carefully and turned their lights on and off as it was flipped. Watching the sweet video is sure to make you smile and get you in the holiday spirit.
