Is This the Most Over-the-Top Dorm Room of 2017?

Until last year, when a pair of Ole Miss freshman created a shockingly luxurious dorm room, we associated college living with concrete surfaces and austere oak furniture. But all that has changed. And leading the charge to this new world of opulent dorm rooms is After Five Designs. We learned their ingenious tips for how to create an over-the-top dorm room earlier this Summer, and now — as students have started to move in — we're privy to their most opulent dorm of the year.

This Mississippi State dorm room looks anything but dreary with its mix of plush textures, from the soft area rug to the velvet accent pillows. Upholstered headboards, colorful bed skirts, and layers of soft blankets make the beds extra inviting. Standard issue desk chairs are swapped out for on-trend acrylic versions cozied up with sheepskin throws. A matching acrylic coffee table anchors a seating area, and metallic accents give the room a youthful glamour.

Where the room really goes from ordinary to extraordinary is the art; a giant painting hangs on the far wall while a pair of matching juju hats hang above each of the beds. Objet d'art enhances the coffee table and dresser top. The overall effect is nothing short of stunning. All this leads us to question, is this the most over-the-top dorm room of 2017? There's still a few more weeks of college move-in so I guess we'll have to wait and see.
