The Trendy Wall Color We're Predicting Will Overtake Grey This Year

Gray walls have been an interior design staple for several years now, and while there's no denying that many a room has been enhanced by a coat of gray paint, we want to propose an alternative that can function as a neutral like grey does, but packs a much more powerful punch: Shadow 2117 from Benjamin Moore. The paint company named this "rich, royal amethyst" as its Color of the Year 2017 after studying trends across the interior design industry, fine arts, fashion, textiles, and more.
"Allusive and enigmatic, Shadow is a master of ambiance. It is a color that calls to mind a 'past', yet it can also make a contemporary, color-confident statement," said Benjamin Moore Creative Director Ellen O'Neill in a press release adding, "Shadow is sophisticated, provocative, and poetic, it can bring energy to a space or harmony and a moment of respite."
We love that shadow is dramatic enough to completely overhaul the look of a room but neutral enough to complement most decor.
