I've been searching for a kitchen runner rug to catch the water dripping from my sink and dishwasher, and it's been surprisingly tricky. Our stone countertops have a busy pattern that clashes easily with many of the vintage-inspired patterns that caught my eye. After rolling out six different rug options that I've had to either return or resell, I finally found a winner to keep. My new rug hails from the Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines x Loloi Rugs line. Loloi Rugs is a family-owned textile company I've bought multiple designs from, and it's available on Amazon. When I first saw the collaboration, I immediately locked eyes on the Mona Runner Rug in Sunset/Natural 2'-6" x 8'-0" ($108). It captures the soulful, vintage aesthetic I gravitate toward, but the pattern — a large-scale medallion motif — is subtle and fairly monochromatic, so it quietly complements the counters instead of competing with them.

What I Like About the Magnolia Home x Loloi Mona Runner Rug

Aside from being a fan of the rug's traditional motifs and muted color palette, I also enjoy how the rug feels under my feet. When I first laid it out, my little boys couldn't stop rolling on it (they call it the "cozy rug"). It has a medium pile, so it's more plush than I expected it to be. At first, I was worried that the higher pile would be a horrible fit for the kitchen, but thankfully, that hasn't been the case. It feels almost like a soft bath mat — a treat for barefoot mornings and evenings — and it immediately soaks up any water that drips as I do dishes.

It's made from polypropylene and polyester, so it's easy to clean and can take on high-traffic areas. I can easily vacuum it and know that the darker color palette and subtle design will hide any future stains. With two little ones, I don't like to introduce rugs that we have to be precious with, and this definitely fits the bill. It's also OEKO-TEX certified, which helps to put my mind at ease knowing that it doesn't contain toxic substances. The rug is definitely one of my favorite kitchen products I've scored on Amazon.

What's Worth Noting About the Magnolia Home x Loloi Mona Runner Rug

Aside from the plusher pile of the rug, I also wasn't expecting the rug to have blue and gold specks sprinkled throughout. It's hard to decipher the true tones of the rug online, but in person, the colors change with the environment and lighting. Since we have a skylight in our kitchen, the bright afternoon light reveals tons of blue and gold flecks in the rug's brown background, providing more of a sheen. It took me a while to get used to this, but once I placed our walnut-toned wooden island next to the rug, the effect was much more muted. In the morning and evenings when the daylight isn't as bright, it's even less noticeable.

It also took a couple of days for the edges and folds to lay flat. Placing a rug pad underneath helped it to stay put and added just a bit more cushioning, which feels great when you're standing over a sink full of dishes.
