25 Things You Didn't Know About HGTV's Genevieve Gorder

She's been nominated for an Emmy two times.

Genevieve grew up in Minneapolis.

Her family has Croatian heritage, and as a result, the country is one of her favorites to visit. "Every Summer, I make my way home," she told POPSUGAR. "When you're in your 'homeland,' everything just feels so right. Hair and skin behave, and the palette is just . . . right."

Genevieve has been approached for a number of jobs thanks to her prowess on social media. She's a fan favorite on Facebook, Pinterest, and more.

Genevieve explained to the Minneapolis Star Tribune that the call to audition for TLC's Trading Spaces came out of the blue. Ross Productions of Tennessee called Genevieve, and her response was, "I'll come for the audition, but I'm not moving to Tennessee."

Genevieve's New York apartment was renovated on her HGTV show Genevieve’s Renovation, and has subsequently been shown off in magazine spreads and online.

Genevieve has written about how her father would make Norwegian krumcake every Christmastime.

After college, Genevieve worked for MTV and wound up as a correspondent for their show Sex in the '90s in 1997.

Genevieve served as Quantum Experience Advisor for new Royal Caribbean cruise ships. She helped to design the interiors of the ships!

Genevieve once had a job at a club owned by Prince.

Genevieve looks to different regions and time periods for her work. She once said, "I always have to be up on my art history, going away from America and away from my history."

As a teenager, Genevieve was an exchange student in Barcelona.

Genevieve was one of the first designers on TLC's Trading Spaces back in 2000.

While balancing her various projects, Genevieve runs her own New York-based design firm.

Genevieve hosts a YouTube series called Ask Genevieve and another called A Well Designed Life on uLive.

Genevieve Gorder hired a spiritual cleaner to alter the energy in one of her homes. "There was a heaviness about the space and some sadness, so I knew that I needed to lift the energy a little bit," she explained to The New York Post.

Genevieve has an online partnership with Capel Rugs.

Genevieve is mom to a daughter named Bebelle.

Genevieve and some of the HGTV gang don't filter their speech! "We have the mouths of sailors!" she has said.

Genevieve explained how she grew up around design in a conversation with Chicago's Daily Herald. "My family bought these old Victorians that were sold for practically nothing where we lived. We all learned how to design and decorate the home. It's not a skill set that I thought was anything valuable, but it manifested into my career," she said.

Born in late July, Genevieve is a Leo.

Genevieve has been on a long list of HGTV shows, including Design Star, Dear Genevieve, Bang For Your Buck, Genevieve's Renovation, Battle on the Block, and White House Christmas.

"If you do your eyes, you don't do your lips. If you do your lips, you don't do your eyes. Same with the pants and the shirt — one can't be banging while the other is going crazy too," she explained to Today.

She graduated from the School of Visual Arts in New York City.
