I Tried the World's First "Dog Bed For Humans" — and I Get the Hype

One thing about me: I love to nap. IMO, there's just nothing quite like drawing the blinds midday and snuggling up under a weighted blanket for a little pick-me-up. I say "little" because sometimes, it's short; other times, admittedly, it's a few hours. Whatever the case, I'm all for optimizing my shut-eye in any and every way possible, so I was thrilled when Plufl — a Seattle-based brand known for its "dog bed for humans" — landed in my email inbox.

This wasn't my first time hearing of Plufl. I had come across it a few times on social media and only recently discovered that I'd missed its appearance on "Shark Tank" in October of last year. The founders — Noah Silverman and Yuki Kinoshita — walked away a success story: they shook hands with Mark Cuban and Lori Greiner, in agreement to their $200,000 investment for a 20 percent stake in the company. Their entrepreneurial success is one of the reasons I gave the team an emphatic "yes" to trying it and chose its Human Dog Bed ($399) in gray, anxious for it to land on my doorstep.

Ahead, I dive into my experience testing it out to help you decide if you need it, too.

The Plufl Human Dog Bed has become one of my favorite places to snuggle with my dog. My husband and I placed it in our TV room and have frequently been choosing it over our sectional (which is equally comfortable, by the way). The Plufl is undeniably soft and comfortable to lie in. It features 360-degree pillow bolsters that both my corgi and I love to rest our heads on, a plush cover comparable to a luxurious blanket, and an orthopedic foam base and memory-foam topper that rivals my Ikea mattress.

The most important thing worth noting about the Plufl Human Dog Bed is that assembly isn't as easy as you might think. To be clear: it's not as difficult as putting together a piece of furniture, but it can be a little frustrating. The Plufl arrives in a small human-size box, and each component is vacuum sealed, which means it requires a minimum of 24 hours to puff up. After that, you have to feed the pillow bolsters into the Plufl's base, before doing the same for the foam pad. The process reminded me of filling a duvet, which can also be aggravating. It took about 20 minutes to put together from start to finish after waiting a day to assemble it.

I'm not the only one to find assembly a bit more difficult than imagined. One shopper who similarly loves it wrote in a review on the brand's website that "it is a bit difficult to assemble but once you have it assembled its amazing!" Another less-impressed reviewer wrote: "This is the single most difficult thing I've ever had to put together. I'm someone with a mild heart condition and had to stop multiple times." (To be clear: I didn't find it as difficult as this shopper, though I do see how it may be more challenging for some than others.)

The Plufl Human Dog Bed is best for those, like me, who love a cozy nap. It's great for people who'd prefer to use their bed exclusively for sleep and utilize another option for nap time. Also worth noting: the Plufl is large and thus best for people who have space — those in tiny apartments might not fare super well.
