Eva Longoria Tears Up Talking About the Cruel Pay Gap Latinas Face

In honor of Equal Pay Day on April 4, Eva Longoria shared a defiant video explaining why gender equality in the workforce — and beyond! — is such an urgent matter. As Eva noted in the video, the pay gap affects all women, however, it also affects women of color at a disproportionate rate.

In the video, Eva shared a startling statistic: for every dollar men make, Latinas make 54 cents. To illustrate her point, she said, "That's like ripping a dollar bill in half. In a standard work week, that's like Latinas only getting paid through Wednesday." Adding, "All the work and half the pay — that's the reality Latinas face every day."

By the end of the video, it appears as though Eva's eyes welled up with tears. Her impassioned PSA is part of a larger initiative started by Sheryl Sandberg and Lean In. On April 4, businesses will offer 20-percent-off discounts to highlight the pay gap. Gina Rodriguez also joined the initiative in conjunction with Luna.
