Through the years, I've learned a lot about myself and have come up with a list of tricks that keep my skin healthy and glowing when I'm dealing with a busy schedule that requires spending days and days wearing makeup. My philosophy is really simple: Treat Yo Self.

It's so important to take the time to treat your skin. We always talk about that red carpet glow — how do actresses do it? It's really about loving the skin we are in, but . . . are we loving it like we're supposed to? Taking a few minutes to pamper your skin might seem like the last thing you want to add to your already busy to-do list, and it really does take time, but your skin deserves it!

People think actresses and models just magically look the way they do, but I'll let you in on the secret — it takes a lot of work for me. It's a routine, but I feel like if you start loving yourself on the physical level, it changes your attitude from within as well. It's time to put yourself first! Here's how I keep it simple.

Are you drinking enough water?

Are you drinking enough water?

Seriously. Are you drinking enough water? Staying hydrating is key to keep your skin looking young and wrinkle-free. I get really bored of drinking it plain and if I don't make it tasty I won't drink it, so what I did was buy a Breville Citrus Press ($200). I also love the more affordable Juiceman JCJ450 Citrus Juicer ($29).

I like to press lemons, limes, grapefruits, or oranges and mix in 3 ounces of the juice into 2 liters of water. Sometimes I cheat a bit, so I do it in 1 liter of water instead. The important thing is to not add more than 3 ounces so you can keep the sugar levels very minimal. Once you've done that, you can spark it up even more by cutting up some pieces of fruit and adding them to the liquid. It can be cucumber and lime, or grapefruit and cinnamon sticks — I love that flavor! Drinking water will also curb your appetite and stop you from snacking too much. Half the time when we think we're hungry we're really just thirsty.

Do you wear SPF?

Do you wear SPF?

It's the best antiaging product there is, and it's not even marketed that way. It really has been a life changer for me. Even if you buy lots of expensive products that promise to do wonders to your skin, if you're not sun blocking, it really won't matter. The sun ages you and, of course, it can cause melanoma, which is a preventable cancer if you do the work. Take care of yourself so you don't have to deal with the consequences later.

My favorite SPF is the L'Oréal Paris Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Day Moisturizer SPF 30 ($20). It's amazing! It evens out my skin tone and gives me a little glow, and it's simple, just like I like things to be. I don't like a 12-step process, and I don't think you need that long of a routine either.

But don't think you walk out the door and you're good to go. You can't forget the most important thing, and that's to reapply. I like to mix the SPF with a little bit of tinted moisturizer throughout the day and keep putting it on. That's how, honestly, I feel protected throughout the day, especially when I'm in the sun — every two hours, don't forget! And don't be afraid to fake a tan either; I love my fake tan.

Are you exfoliating?

Are you exfoliating?

I'm a big exfoliator. I have sensitive skin, so I look for things that are gentle. I like the Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel Extra Strength Daily Peel ($88 for 30 packets). The little packets save my life when I travel. I use one packet twice a week, and it helps to get rid of any dead skin without making my skin extra dry.

It's so important to remember that when you're applying products on your skin every day (all that sunscreen and makeup), it builds up. It helps to exfoliate so all the stuff that stays in your skin has a chance to come off.

For my body, I love brushing. It stimulates your skin cells and helps with cellulite. Plus, it feels so nice to take a few minutes in the shower to do this ritual. Try to do it at night so you'll have more time. Use a large body brush in circular motions to stimulate your system.

Do you hydrate your skin?

Do you hydrate your skin?

I use a mask every chance I get — cheap masks, peel masks, oxygen masks, whatever I can get my hands on that is moisturizing. I try different ones and aim to do it every day. I feel like if I'm reading a book or watching TV, I might as well have a mask on. If I'm talking on the phone with my friends or taking a business meeting from home, there's a good probability that I have a green face on the other side of the line.

Are you using antioxidants?

Are you using antioxidants?

I can't tell you enough how important it is to use them. They are antiaging, antitoxins in your body, and they fight all the damage you get from the environment. Green tea has a lot of them, so I make it a point to drink it when I can. It gives you energy, and it's wonderful for your skin.

You might already be eating antioxidants, but are they part of your skin care routine? It's very important to apply antioxidants to your face so it can counteract all the sun damage and pollution it deals with every day. I use the SkinMedica TNS Recovery Complex ($179) and put it on right after I wash my face, before applying SPF. I feel like it really has changed the texture of my skin.

Do you massage your face?

Do you massage your face?

This might sound weird, but it is my favorite part of my routine. I have this wonderful device called Nurse Jamie Accelerator Ultra ($220). It's a little pricey, but you can use your fingers too to drain your skin. I like to do it during the time a mask has to sit on your face; that's 20 minutes of pure multitasking. It's like a spa at home!

After I'm done massaging, I do a trick I learned from being on TV and movie sets. I grab a small wet hand towel, put a little bit of lavender oil on it, then put everything in a Ziploc bag, and put it in the microwave for a minute. Be careful when you take the towel out of the bag; it'll be really hot, so wait until it's cooled down and put it over your face. Remove whatever you have on your skin (the mask!) with this lavender oil. You'll just feel like a million bucks.

So remember the simple plan: water, sunscreen, exfoliation, masks, antioxidants, and a nice at-home facial.
