Everyone Should Read This Letter Signed by Latino Celebrities About the Election

Now that the 2016 presidential campaigning is officially underway, it's become even more difficult to read the news without an offensive statement from a politician making headlines. Donald Trump in particular has become the voice of xenophobia in American politics, brashly vocalizing anti-immigrant sentiments that have, unfortunately, been widely parroted amongst his political party and supporters. But Zoe Saldana, America Ferrera, Dolores Huerta, and 20 other prominent Latino figures have said "enough" to racism, signing an open letter against all the GOP candidates.

"Our communities have the power to decide who wins in the 2016 election," reads the letter, which was published by People For the American Way. "We hope that power is used to vote for candidates who support our community, share our values, and will fight for working families. Neither Trump nor any of his fellow Republican candidates meet that standard."

Written in both English and Spanish, the letter lists various anti-Latino offenses by the Republican party and encourages Latino voters to vote for candidates that represent non-bigoted views. The move is significant, seeing as how the Latino voting power continues to grow.
