Genesis Rodriguez on Eva Longoria's Telenovela: "I Gave Her a Lot of My Storylines"

Genesis Rodriguez is Latina's April 2016 cover star. The Cuban-Venezuelan-American actress and L'Oréal Paris brand ambassador looks incredible on the Spring cover in a green pleated dress with a plunging neckline and dainty floral details.

After recently offering her opinion on Hollywood's infamous lack of diversity, Genesis opened up to the magazine about her experience working on telenovelas, her admiration for director Kevin Smith, and even her dating life. Keep reading for sneak peek at the issue, which hits stands March 8.

  • On dating when your dad is El Puma: "I remember one time a guy came by, stuck out his hand and said, 'Hi, how are you?' My dad didn't even acknowledge his presence."
  • On sharing her crazy telenovela stories with Eva Longoria: "I actually had a lot of chats with Eva before her show [Telenovela] aired. I gave her a lot of my storylines. She was fascinated by the whole idea of what goes on behind the scenes. She was actually telling people on a talk show one of the stories I told her about a co-star who loved slapping people. She loved slapping people for real. She was an angry woman, and she held grudges against people. So she'd give it to you on the day of the scene. She'd give you a galleta pero asi. You'd feel it for days. There was one girl who got a galleta from her, and she gave it right back to her. It wasn't in the scene, but it stayed."
  • On director Kevin Smith: "He is the first director I've worked with that doesn't see my race. When he cast me for Allison in Tusk, it wasn't written for a Latina. When he met me, he was like, 'Oh sh*t, she can act.' In Yoga Hosers he made me do a Canadian accent. I was like, 'Kevin, you know I am brown and Latina.' He said, 'Yeah, so what?'"
