The Very Sweet History of Lin-Manuel Miranda's Oscars Date

On the Oscars red carpet, Lin-Manuel Miranda brought his mom as his date, fulfilling a promise he made to her as a teenager.

"My mom always said, 'When you get nominated, I'm your date,'" Miranda told ABC News. "I think she said it to me when I was 13 years old." Though Miranda never expected to be nominated for an Oscar, his mom's instincts were correct.

On the red carpet, his mother, Luz Towns-Miranda, described her son as a kid as always singing The Little Mermaid and loyally watching the Oscars every year. On Twitter, Miranda revealed what his mother was doing on the way to the ceremony: watching Gilmore Girls on her phone.

Aaaaaand my mom is watching Gilmore Girls on her phone on the way to the Oscars.

Even cuter, Milo Ventimiglia sent his love back to Luz:

It's a good travel companion @Lin_Manuel that @GilmoreGirls. Love to your mom. Enjoy the #Oscars MV

Miranda also made sure his mom looked fierce, enlisting Stacy London to style Luz and find the perfect dress. When the final look was revealed on the Rachael Ray Show, Miranda adorably commented, "The only awkward part will be when people come up to you and say 'Congrats on your nomination for Jackie.' Because she looks stunning!" Luz indeed gave off a Jackie O vibe in the black and white Escada gown, which was provided for her by luxury rental site Armarium.

The duo also wore blue ribbons in support of the ACLU. Keep reading for more cute photos of Miranda and his mom.
