8 Things to Know About the Rising Spanish Pop Star Rosalía

Rosalía realized her love of dance at 13 years old. Eventually, she was accepted into the Catalonia College of Music to study flamenco, a program that only accepts one student every year. As an apprentice of José Miguel Vizcaya, Rosalía was trained in the traditional style of singing called cante flamenco.

In 2017, Rosalía was nominated for best new artist at the Latin Grammy Awards. Although she lost, the following year she picked up five nominations and took home two wins for her hit song, "Malamente." And this year she attended the Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Rosalía collaborated with other high-profile artists like J Balvin, Pharrell Williams, and James Blake. Her song with A.Chal, "Me Traicionaste," was recently featured on the Game of Thrones soundtrack.

Rosalía recently performed at Coachella. She played her own set and joined J Balvin during his show for their single "Con Altura." She's also joined other festival lineups like Glastonbury, Lollapalooza, Osheaga, and Austin City Limits.

Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodóvar cast Rosalía for a scene in his upcoming film Dolor y Gloria. She is set to act alongside Penélope Cruz.
