This "Call Me Caitlyn" Halloween Costume Is Completely Offensive and Distasteful

While Halloween is one of the most fun and carefree holidays, it can also bring out some really bad decisions (remember Julianne Hough's OITNB costume?). Unfortunately, this year is no exception, and there's a new costume available for purchase that's completely offensive and disrespectful: a "Call Me Caitlyn" costume of Caitlyn Jenner. The costume depicts Caitlyn's Vanity Fair cover from this year, and it's being sold by several Halloween websites.

There's a petition on Change.org that's demanding the websites to remove the costume, explaining further why it's such a problem.

"To make a costume out of a marginalized identity reduces that person and community to a stereotype for privileged people to abuse. In this case, if you follow through with production of a Caitlyn Jenner costume, cisgender people will purchase it to make fun of her and our community. . . . Do not turn Caitlyn Jenner into a costume. Your profit will only lead to greater transphobia and marginalization of an already at-risk community."

Some of the descriptions on the websites even take a deliberately humorous turn. One reads, "You probably won't break any Twitter records when you wear this outfit like Caitlyn did when she first made her account, but you'll be sure to get a few laughs out of your friends and the other guests at the get together."

We certainly hope that the petition helps and that you won't see anyone show up to your Halloween party in this costume.
