The Viral Hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend Proves Love Should Be an Open Door For All

Anna found love with Kristoff in the ending of Frozen, but what about Elsa? Fans are now hoping that in Frozen 2, the ice queen will finally find her significant other and that her SO will be another woman. The thought of Elsa falling in love with a woman all started with Alexis Moncada, who tweeted:

The teen's hashtag #GiveElsaAGirlfriend quickly blew up on the internet, with many fans supporting this progressive idea.

"The entertainment industry has given us girls who have fallen in love with beasts, ogres who fall for humans, and even grown women who love bees," Alexis said on MTV. "But we've never been able to see the purity in a queer relationship."

Since her tweets have gone viral, Alexis reveals that she feels overwhelmed by the support from everyone. Though as with every hot topic, there is always backlash. One Twitter user wrote, "#GiveElsaAGirlfriend really? That's ridiculous," while another said, "I would not allow my daughters to watch the film. Not anti-gay. I don't want Hollywood explaining sex to my kids."

Despite all these naysayers, however, if you type the word "give" into Google, the fourth search term is "give elsa a girlfriend," proving that fans want to see diversity in Disney films and want to see characters representative of themselves, which includes a protagonist in a same-sex relationship.

"Giving young girls the chance to understand that a princess can love another princess the same way Cinderella loved her Prince Charming is vital to their development," Alexis wrote. "No one deserves to feel isolated and confused about who they are." Agreed! After all, love IS an open door . . . or it should be!
