Lizzie McGuire Wedding Sing-Along
Hey Now! This Bride's Iconic Lizzie McGuire Sing-Along Is What Dreams Are Made Of
As soon as Lizzie McGuire belted out "What Dreams Are Made Of" alongside a tone-deaf Paolo in The Lizzie McGuire Movie, the song immediately became the soundtrack to my childhood (and my shower tune of choice). That's why when we stumbled upon a video of a bride and her maid of honor singing an epic rendition of the iconic Disney Channel hit, our hearts could barely handle the nostalgia, but their backstory is what's really pulling at our heartstrings.
Krysta and Lexi, the stars of the aforementioned sing-along, met back in 2012 in a college theater class and instantly clicked. Lexi opened up to POPSUGAR about how she had trouble making new pals when she was younger but explained how her and Krysta's similar senses of humor made for an easy-as-pie friendship. "She was the childhood friend I never really had, that I could talk to about everything," Lexi told us. Fast forward five years to Krysta's wedding day, and the BFFs just knew they had to somehow celebrate their bond during the special occasion. So they picked Lizzie McGuire's legendary movie song because it held a deeper meaning to them than just being the ultimate sing-and-dance-like-nobody's-watching jam.
"We both grew up with Lizzie McGuire and were both obsessed with Hilary Duff as well," Lexi explained. "Although my childhood was for the most part pretty normal aside from being homeschooled, for [Krysta] the song meant so much more. While I was watching the movie thinking about how cool it would be to be a pop star, she was fighting childhood cancer." Well, two types of cancer to be exact: renal cell carcinoma and Wilms tumor.
For Krysta, Lizzie McGuire's adventures provided a much-needed escape from her health problems. "All throughout this process, Hilary Duff's acting and music distracted me from the horrible things going on in my life and made me laugh and smile," Krysta told us. "In particular, 'So Yesterday' really spoke to me about how one day my treatment and cancer would be 'so yesterday.'" OK, we may or may not be tearing up a bit at this point.
When Krysta and Lexi shared the sweet video of themselves belting out "What Dreams Are Made Of" at Krysta's wedding reception, they explained how much it meant to finally live out their childhood dream of doing the sing-along in tandem. "This was a long time coming, after years of us dancing around our rooms to the song, we FINALLY got to dance to it together in an awesome ballroom in flowing dresses," they wrote in the video's description.
Although the wedding guests in the background appear to be slightly ignoring the BFFs' sing-along, Krysta and Lexi don't have a care in the world and continue proudly reciting the lyrics until the very end of the song. Watch the sweet video above, which is almost as epic as that time Lizzie and Gordo kissed — almost.
