Strangers Help Woman After Her Husband Was Deployed

How 3 Different Strangers Helped This Woman on the Day Her Husband Was Deployed

On the day her husband left for his first deployment, Kathryn Weaver made a major mistake. She went to see his ship off for the last time, but ended up in the wrong area. She quickly jumped in her car to drive to the right parking lot, but his ship was already leaving and almost out of sight by the time she made it.

"I started running with my 'I love you' sign in hand. I didn't want to miss my last chance to see my husband off," she shared with the Love What Matters Facebook page.

Despite running as fast as she could trying to chase the ship so that George could see her holding the sign, Kathryn realized that she wasn't going to make it and broke down in tears. However, a man on a bike saw Kathryn and stopped next to her. "He said, 'Please don't cry, I can help,'" Kathryn recalled. "He told me to hop on the back of his bicycle and he would try to catch up."

This stranger pedaled Kathryn for nearly a mile as fast as he could to get her to the end of the boardwalk, and she was able to catch the ship pulling away. Kathryn was still crying during the long walk back to her car when a second stranger approached. "A woman was walking with her husband after watching the ship pull outcame over to me. She noticed I was upset and said, 'You look like you need a mom hug,'" she wrote. "She hugged me for a good five minutes before giving me her number in case I ever need anything."

Still emotional, Kathryn continued her walk but was stopped when a different woman ran up to her and gave her a big hug. "She offered support and encouragement told me I would be OK," Kathryn wrote. "She told me her wife was on the ship and gave me her contact information as well and offered a helping hand and support if I ever need it."

Despite having never met before, these strangers offered Kathryn both physical and emotional support on the hardest day of her life. "I cannot express how grateful I am for these three people today," she wrote. "A simple act of kindness helped me so much and can make someone's worst day a little bit brighter. Thank you to those three amazing people today."
