The First Same-Sex Wedding in Times Square Will Move You to Tears

Alexander Westbrook and Michael Eisele had a wedding for the books — literally.

The Atlanta natives entered a contest by Generation Tux, in which engaged couples vied for the ultimate annual venue for romance: New Year's Eve at Times Square. As runners-up, Alexander and Michael said their vows in a ceremony during the celebration . . . which made them participants of the first same-sex wedding live in Times Square.

"Through their love of music and each other, Alexander and Michael have stood the test of time and come out stronger than ever," said photographer Sarah Zimmer. "Having fallen in love over 10 years ago and making it through some of life's difficult situations, they always knew they wanted to be at each other's side through thick and thin. As our culture has evolved, Alexander and Michael have continued to grow together, and it's clear they were ready to outdo their own proposal with a live ceremony on stage this New Year's Eve in Times Square."

Alexander initially proposed to Michael in October, during Atlanta's Pride parade. With the help of local radio station Power 96.1, he was able to halt the parade long enough to pop the big question.

"After such a grand event, everyone asked and wondered how we would top the proposal," he said. "My solution was to get married in front of millions in Times Square." Alexander described the experience as "a fairy tale come true."

Safe to say this is one helluva milestone and a beautiful testament to how far we've come as a nation. Congrats to the lovely couple!
