"Beauty," from director Andrew Dosunmu and writer Lena Waithe, stars Gracie Marie Bradley as Beauty, a young singer who's about to become a superstar if she can sort out her personal life. Her religious parents, played by Niecy Nash and Giancarlo Esposito, want to help guide her, but they're very opposed to her relationship with Jasmine (Aleyse Shannon). Many believe the film's plot is inspired by Whitney Houston, who allegedly had a close relationship with her friend and assistant Robyn Crawford that she ended before it could affect her career. "Beauty" creates a fictional singer to tell this story.
