This Moody San Francisco Wedding Had the Best of Both Worlds: A Chic Dinner Party and '90s Rap

Jacklyn and Mark married at the grand and Gothic St. Ignatius Church in San Francisco. The bride figured that if they were going to tie the knot at a church, they might as well make a statement. Finding the perfect venue in Northern California proved to be extremely difficult, as Mark is allergic to wine and Jaclyn dislikes being outdoors. But as soon as they laid eyes on The University Club atop Nob Hill, they just knew it was for them.

"It was dark, it was moody, and it was classic," Jaclyn said. "It has a library that I have dreamed of having since I was a little girl. And the view! It just felt so us — and seeing our friends and family light up and say the same thing when they walked in was priceless."

The couple envisioned their wedding reception featuring a dark, chic dinner party where all the guests were dressed to the nines but also rapping along to '90s rap music at the top of their lungs. And that was exactly what they got. The fact that the entire bridal party dressed in black only added to the moody theme.

To honor the bride's late father, she wrapped a locket with his photo around her bouquet. Mark and Jaclyn also created different buttons with photos of other family members who've passed and sorted them into an old whiskey box for guests to wear.

"My absolute favorite DIY detail were the button favors of my late father," Jaclyn said. "It was as though a piece of him was with everyone, and being with everyone made it feel like he was with us."

After toasts, Mark led everyone into the bar after dinner to play his wife a song on the grand piano. With Jacklyn sitting on top, Mark played and sang N*SYNC's "This I Promise You," a song that Mark joked he would sing on their wedding day early on in their relationship. The newlyweds then shared their first dance to a Chet Baker song to remember the first record Jaclyn ever bought him. This wedding was a beautiful representation of these two as a couple.
