The First Clip of Pixar's Bao Is Here, and We Are SQUEALING Over the Cuteness

A new short film from Pixar called Bao will premiere in front of The Incredibles 2, which hits theaters June 15. The seven-and-a-half-minute film is about a woman's handmade dumpling that comes to life and gives her a second chance at motherhood. Previously suffering from depression over her empty nest, the mother's dumpling "baby" reminds her about loving and protecting a child. Oh my gosh — everything about it is beyond adorable.

Entertainment Weekly got an exclusive first look at Bao and shared the cutest illustrations of the smiley dumpling cuddling up to its mamma. In addition to filling us with every possible emotion and driving home a valuable lesson (Pixar's specialty), we predict this screening will leave us with a serious craving for soup dumplings.

The film's writer and director director, Domee Shi — Pixar's first-ever female director of a short — was inspired by her own upbringing as the only child to Chinese immigrants. "Often times it felt like my mom would treat me like a precious little dumpling, wanting to make sure I was safe, that I didn't go out late, all that stuff," Domee told Entertainment Weekly. "I just wanted to create this magical, modern-day fairy tale, kind of like a Chinese Gingerbread Man story."

As if we couldn't be more excited to make plans to see The Incredibles 2, this sealed the deal — or the dough? If you'll excuse me, I'm going to order some dumplings and watch the above clip on repeat!
