Bernie Sanders was quick to issue a response to President Donald Trump's first congressional address. Aside from slamming Trump for not speaking about climate change or social security, Sanders tweeted about the moment from Trump's speech that nearly made him laugh out loud.
When Trump said we need to promote clean air and clean water, I had a hard time not laughing. Today he rolled back clean water rules.— Bernie Sanders (@SenSanders) March 1, 2017
"When Trump said we need to promote clean air and clean water, I had a hard time not laughing," he wrote. Why? Sanders explained more in his Facebook Live video about Trump's address. "Because on this very, very day he signed an executive order rolling back President Obama's clean water rules and has appointed the most anti-environmental EPA administrator in our nation's history," Sanders said.
On Feb. 28, the same day as his address, Trump moved to get rid of a rule that could define which small bodies of water are subject to federal authority under the Clean Water Act. And the current head of the EPA, Scott Pruitt, has been described as a "seasoned legal opponent of the agency" who will help "dismantle major regulations on climate change and clean water."
