Black Woman Lifted and Pinned to Police Car by Cops in DC

This Viral Video of Cops Pinning a Woman in the Air Against a Car Prompted an Investigation

Police are launching an investigation after a video of a black woman being lifted off her feet and pinned to a police car by officers has gone viral. The incident happened in Washington DC on Monday and was captured by a bystander who posted it on Twitter under the username MacAndCheeks.

"We've been made aware of the video and contacted their commanding officer," Rachel Schaerr, a DC police department spokeswoman told the Washington Post, adding that the department will "continue investigating this matter."

The bystander posted a series of tweets in which she says the officers didn't search the woman or put her in handcuffs but quickly let her go. In follow-up Twitter videos interviewing the woman, the bystander also identifies her as a 32-year-old named Shadon. "I'm a schoolteacher and I work out here and I help these little girls all day, every day, so there's no reason for you to assume that somebody out here is doing the wrong thing," says the woman. "And most definitely when I'm in uniform. Are you serious?"

The bystander also tweeted a video and wrote that the woman said officers accused her of being a prostitute.

We're reached out to the bystander for more information. Schaerr told the Post about the officers, "If they did anything wrong, they will be held accountable." The video comes at a time of high tension over excessive force by police against black Americans.
