- One person has died and more than 100 are injured after a New Jersey transit train crashed in Hoboken. The incident happened shortly before 9 a.m., when the packed train failed to stop at the station, plowing through barriers and crashing against a wall.
- Amy Schumer became the first woman to make it on Forbes's annual top 10 highest-paid comedians list. She came in fourth place with more than $17 million. Kevin Hart topped the list with $87.5 million, taking the title from Jerry Seinfeld, who had reigned since 2006.
- Donald Trump's company allegedly violated the US embargo against Cuba in the '90s. According to a Newsweek report, Trump employees secretly visited Havana while Fidel Castro was president and spent at least $68,000 there in 1998. They got the money to Cuba by funneling it through a US consulting firm with Trump's approval.

- A 6-year-old boy who was shot in yesterday's South Carolina elementary school attack is fighting for his life. Police have arrested the 14-year-old gunman, who shot two students and one female teacher.
- Game of Thrones creator George R.R. Martin teamed up with Apple to release enhanced editions of the series on iBooks. They will feature extras like interactive maps, handy timelines, and family trees. The first title is currently available for $9, and the others will roll out in October and December.
- Adventure Time, a beloved series on the Cartoon Network that follows the adventures of Jake the Dog and Finn the Human, is coming to an end. The ninth and final season will air in 2018.
