Samantha Bee's Interview With Glenn Beck
"Please Don't Make the Mistakes I Made": Glenn Beck's Interview With Sam Bee Is a Must-Watch
If the recent presidential election taught us anything, it's to expect the unexpected — like Full Frontal host Samantha Bee seeking some post-election healing from Glenn Beck.
The interview isn't entirely out of left field, however. This was a transformative year for the conservative commentator. In November, Beck apologized via The New York Times for sensationalizing politics and promoting a staunch divide between the nation's two main political parties. That same month, he came out as a supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement in The New Yorker, and he frequently railed against Donald Trump throughout his campaign.
Having witnessed Beck's de facto apology tour, Bee invited him on her show to ponder the future and perhaps find some common ground . . . and take a few jabs at each other.
At the start of the interview, both Bee and Beck comment on the surreal nature of their meeting — with Bee clarifying that she does not intend for the interview to normalize a "lunatic" like Beck. After Beck then asked why he was asked to appear on her show, Bee said, "I think that our future is going to require a broad coalition of nonpartisan decency. It's not just individual people against Donald Trump, it's all of us against Trumpism."
In a particularly poignant moment, Beck urged Bee to learn from his mistakes. "I know what I did — I helped divide, I'm willing to take that. My message to you is: please don't make the mistakes that I made," he said. "I think all of us are doing it. We're doing it on Facebook, we're doing it on Twitter. We tear each other apart, and we don't see the human on the other side."
