Nearly 150 People Just Died in Attacks and You Probably Didn't Hear About It

One hundred and forty eight. That's the number of people who were killed on Monday in Syria in the coastal cities Jableh and Tartous as a result of multiple attacks, according to the Syrian Observatory For Human Rights as reported by Reuters. At least 200 have been injured.

ISIS has taken responsibility for at least five suicide attacks and two car bombs that ripped through the government-controlled areas. Bombs hit near a bus station in Tartous, while blasts in Jableh also hit a bus station and a hospital emergency room. Michael Horowitz, who is the head of business development for a Middle East-based research group called Levantine Group, has been tweeting updates.

The attacks are rare in the area, which also hosts Russian military forces, reports Reuters. "This demonstrates yet again just how fragile the situation in Syria is. And this one more time underscores the need for new urgent steps to continue the negotiating process," said a Kremlin spokesman, referring to Geneva peace talks.
