Trump Winery Wants to Hire More Foreign Workers

The Irony of Trump's Winery Seeking to Hire Foreign Workers Is Unreal

While Trump's wines are selling out quickly at stores in Virginia, the company is looking for foreign workers to help plant and harvest its grapes this Spring. A report from BuzzFeed revealed the winery owned by President Donald Trump's son Eric Trump has requested permission to hire 23 workers from overseas. The job will reportedly pay the foreign workers $11.27 an hour and potentially run from early April through late October.

If hired, the workers would be granted a temporary work visa under the federal H-2A visa program, which allows American companies to employ foreign workers "as long as no qualified US workers want the jobs." The report also showed at least 286 foreign workers were sought out by companies owned by Trump since June 2015, including Mar-a-Lago, Trump's luxury resort in Palm Beach, FL.

NBC's senior news editor Bradd Jaffy called out the irony of Trump's history of hiring foreign workers since he ran a presidential campaign on a mantra of "buy American and hire American."
