United Airlines Pilot Bans Political Talk on His Flight
This Pilot's Response to an In-Flight Argument About the Election Is Going Viral
After a political argument erupted on a flight from San Francisco, CA, to Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, over Donald Trump's presidential victory, the pilot's response is going viral. YouTube user Jon Bauer uploaded a one-minute clip that his friend recorded after the fight broke out where the United Airlines pilot can be heard politely asking passengers to avoid discussing politics.
The tense moment reportedly began after a man wearing a "plaid shirt and camo cap said something racist (about being 'glad to have kept his guns') to an African American lady," Bauer wrote on his YouTube page. According to Bauer's friend, the woman began to cry and the two were separated. The altercation prompted the pilot to deliver a ban on political talk for the remainder of the trip.
"When cooler heads prevail and we can talk and realize that we're all human beings and we all should stick together and we can all pull for this country in our own way, then that's what we should do," said the pilot. His call for calm was met with a round of applause from the people on board.
Megan McCarthy, a spokeswoman for United Airlines, told The Washington Post that no passengers was removed from the flight. "Our pilot was attempting to diffuse an argument between two customers and get everyone safely to their destination," she wrote in an emailed statement.
