This Viral Arkansas Police Officer Will Restore Your Faith in Good Cops

The recent killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile (along with many other deaths at the hands of police) have left many wondering if good cops truly exist. The question might elicit less optimistic answers from many, but there is hope that kindhearted officers still take the oath to protect and serve. Arkansas police officer Tommy Norman is one of those people.

Norman has been a part of the Little Rock Police Department for 18 years and has played an active role in his surrounding communities. He often shares his day-to-day activities with his rapidly growing one million followers on Instagram, and they go beyond just patrolling. A typical day for Norman includes playing with the local kids, sharing snacks, and just being an all-around positive force to the people in his community.

While Norman has long been an admired leader in his neighborhood and on social media, the recent killings of Sterling and Castile have since increased awareness of his civic work. Many of his followers have left comments under his videos praising his genuine care and positivity in the black community — some say Norman's relationships with the seniors and children of Little Rock have brought them to tears.

Celebrities have also used their platforms to show support of Officer Norman's work. Over the weekend, rapper The Game started a GoFundMe campaign for the officer to continue to help his community with toys, clothing, food, and activities. The rapper shared on his Instagram that he was inspired to raise funds for the officer after having a conversation with his son about the nature of good and bad officers. The Game made the first donation of $1,000, and in a little over one day, his goal of $50,000 was exceeded in support of Norman and his initiatives.

For those of us struggling to understand the disheartening events that occurred last week, Officer Norman is undoubtedly a great example of not only a good officer but also a great person who shows love and compassion for those around him. Check out some of his videos here to see why he's giving thousands of people hope.
