These Before-and-After Photos of Italy’s Earthquake Capture the Devastating Damage

Early in the morning of Aug. 24, a powerful earthquake struck Central Italy. Impact of the 6.2 magnitude earthquake was most extensive roughly 100 miles from Rome, in the county's mountainous Umbria region, according to the New York Times. The earthquake caused devastating damage and total collapse of buildings in some of Italy's historic cities. At least 281 people are reported dead and dozens more are injured as rescue teams attempt to save people trapped in rubble.
