Purebred dogs can cost a fortune. By adopting a mutt from a shelter, there's a good chance you'll save yourself a boatload of money. Adoption fees don't usually run north of $200 to $300.

Pretty much every mutt is different because the blend of breeds will rarely be the same twice. This gives your new pup a total uniqueness.

One issue with purebred dogs is that they can be inbred, which can lead to a lot of health issues. Because mutts are crossbred and a little bit of everything, they don't generally run into any problems related to inbreeding.

Mutts are everywhere. When you decide you want a dog and have done all your research, it's much easier to go to your local shelter and find a mutt rather than a purebred. Sure, if you have your heart set on a purebred dog and want to spend the time and money on it, that's up to you, but if you're ready to adopt a dog today, you should be able to find one pretty easily at any shelter.
