This Animal Shelter's Adoption Ad For a Sassy Cat Is Way Too Relatable: "She's a Jerk"

Mitchell County Animal Rescue

Single, socially awkward, and ready to mingle. No, this isn't my dating profile. It's just the start of what you need to know about Perdita, a ridiculously sassy cat up for adoption at Mitchell County Animal Rescue in Spruce Pine, North Carolina. "Not for the faint of heart," Perdita is a 4-year-old domestic shorthair who found her way to the animal rescue on Christmas Eve 2019 after losing her owner.

"Perdita loves head scratches and will make it known when she is done with your affection."

"She was left alone after her owner passed away and has absolutely earned the right to be a jerk," Mitchell County Animal Rescue's Executive Director Amber Lowery told POPSUGAR via email. "She has been with us since Christmas Eve and has been up for adoption since the beginning of the year."

Despite her heartbreaking story, Perdita — who is known well throughout the shelter for her grumpy temperament — is ready to find a forever home and a human companion who loves her deeply. "Perdita's ideal human will have loads of patience, understanding, a sense of humor, be experienced in cat ownership and knowledge of cat body language," Amber said. "She is spirited and deserves an awesome home. Perdita loves head scratches and will make it known when she is done with your affection."

Just in case Perdita's photo and background story weren't enough to make you fall completely in love, her human friends have created a humorous Facebook post highlighting some of her qualities that make her the "World's Worst Cat."

Likes:
Her likes include "staring into your soul until you feel as if you may never be cheerful again; the song Cat Scratch Fever, the movie Pet Cemetery (Church is her hero), jump scares (her specialty), lurking in dark corners, being queen of her domicile, fooling shelter staff into thinking she's sick (vet agrees...she's just a jerk)."

Dislikes:
Perdita's dislikes include "the color pink, kittens (yuk [sic] they are so chipper), dogs, children, the Dixie Chicks, Disney movies, Christmas and last but NOT least...HUGS."

More than a little socially awkward, Perdita is looking for the perfect human to match her energy, and the shelter is even offering up a free adoption for the sassy cat's future owner. Anyone interested in giving Perdita a forever home should visit Mitchell County Animal Rescue's website to fill out an application. "We have had over 50 applications for Perdita's adoption and will be making a selection soon," Amber said as of the publication of this article, so don't sleep on this cute kitty. In the meantime, keep scrolling to see even more adorable photos of this grouchy cat.

Update: Over 175 applications were sent in and narrowed down to the top 10 applicants. Perdita has since found her forever home and moved to Tennessee to live with her new owners.
