There's a Secret Island in the Middle of Texas, and It Actually Looks Pretty Awesome

Texas, you're just full of surprises, aren't ya? We were confused by the tiny town of Marfa, which features a Prada store alongside a dirt road, and now we've learned about a secret island situated in the middle of nowhere. Visitors can find Son's Island, a private three-and-a-half-acre paradise, at Lake Placid between New Braunfels and Seguin (about an hour drive from Austin). Here, you can rent one of the 40 lakeside cabanas, kayak, paddleboard, BBQ, camp, and more. It actually looks like a blast based on the photos on Instagram!

The cabanas are available to be rented by individuals, but it's definitely ideal for large groups since they can accommodate up to 15 people. Each Hawaiian-style hut comes with a picnic table, hammock, lounge chairs, BBQ pit, comfortable seating, bar top and stools, water and electricity, and a private swimming/fishing dock. Day rentals ($145 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.) are reserved far in advance, so make sure you snag yours ASAP if you plan to visit.

It's also important to note that Son's Island isn't open all year round. It's only available for use in the Fall (September, October, and November) and Spring and Summer months (March through August), making it the perfect group vacation idea.
