When a mysterious new airline started offering flights from California to Spain for $149, people freaked out . . . and promptly sent the newly launched website into overdrive. Now, it's become clear that the extremely affordable airline, called Level, is the latest creation from the International Airlines Group, the parent company for British Airways and more.
According to a press release, Level is a long-haul budget airline that flies from Barcelona to four destinations: Buenos Aires, Argentina; Punta Cana, Dominican Republic; Los Angeles; and Oakland, CA. Fares typically start at $149 and are currently on sale, however, the flights will not be taking place until June.
While you shouldn't exactly expect an Emirates experience given Level's price point, the planes don't sound too shabby either. CEO Willie Walsh described the planes as "stylish and modern." What's more, Level may fly to other locations around Europe in the near future. Walsh said, "This is just the start. We're really excited about the opportunities for expansion and we plan to bring Level to other European destinations."
