These days, Aly Raisman has swapped out her signature sparkly leotards in favor of something a bit more comfortable: cozy basics from Aerie. While the gold-medal-winning Olympic gymnast became a fixture on the 2012 and 2016 US women's Olympic gymnastic teams — where she captivated viewers with her effortless floor routines and gravity-defying vault stunts — the world champion is enjoying a different kind of success beyond the mat, and it starts with her work as an ambassador for Aerie.

"Aerie does such a good job of genuinely encouraging me and anyone else they work with to be their real, authentic self," Raisman tells PS ahead of her appearance at the company's summit, the Aerie Real Fest. "It's just made for such a special partnership because I really feel like I can be myself and it's also helped me to gain more confidence."

In 2018, Raisman joined forces with the brand for its #AerieReal campaign, which expanded on the label's decade-long commitment to using unretouched photos and championing real people through its products. Since then, she's designed her own capsule collections alongside Aerie's team, starred in a number of fashion campaigns, and even partnered with the Aerie Real Foundation to award signature grants to nonprofits that work to educate and empower young women. Girl Talk received this year's grant at the 2024 summit.

As for how Aerie's commitment to a more thoughtful ethos will influence the apparel industry as a whole, Raisman hopes their work will usher in a new era. "I do hope that other brands will follow in their footsteps, because I think Aerie really shows that when you are supportive and you pay attention to what customers want and you're willing to learn and grow, amazing things can happen," she says.

In an exclusive interview, Raisman chats with PS about her ambassadorship with Aerie — including her recent appearance at the Aerie Real Fest — her favorite products from the brand and elsewhere, and how she hopes to inspire and educate the next generation through her upcoming children's book.

Gardening has become an outlet of self-care for Raisman, who says she loves the satisfaction of "growing different things" at home. Botanical Interests is her choice brand for seeds, as it offers organic herbs like these Botanical Interests Tulsi Holy Basil Seeds ($3).

Pro Tip: Raisman's favorite gardening hack? Replanting seeds from other vegetables. "When you go to the grocery store and you're getting — whether it's a cucumber or a pepper — you can take the seeds, dry them in the heat, and usually replant them," says Raisman, who notes that it's "very fulfilling" whenever you get a vegetable out of it.

While Raisman's everyday routine often changes when she's traveling or away for work, her ideal morning regimen includes a walk and quality time spent with her dog, Mylo — who likes to mirror everything she does, even down to taking daily supplements. "He likes to copy whatever I do," Raisman says, "so if he sees me taking supplements, he's so excited in the morning to take his supplements, and he loves the taste of EverRoot Digestion ($25) soft chews."

Pro Tip: EverRoot has a reference guide that lists how many soft chews to administer to your dog, based on their weight.

Having a staple hair-care routine is vital in Raisman's day-to-day schedule, and she loves taking her time with hair products — particularly this Schwarzkopf OSiS+ Bounty Balm Rich Curl Cream ($26), which she prefers to use after taking a shower or bath. "I shampoo and conditioner my hair, and then I just kind of add some of that [hair mask] in and take my time with it. I'll brush my hair, but then I'll also massage my scalp with it," Raisman says.

Pro Tip: Raisman tries to use the hair mask once a week. It relaxes her and reminds her to "be more present" in the evenings.

Raisman's an avid reader and says that she usually travels with "multiple books" to keep her entertained mid-flight. As of late, she's loved reading "The Way Forward" by Yung Pueblo ($13), a book of poetic mantras. "I like to read [a lot of] different things, so depending on if I'm in the mood for like a lighter read or more of a self-help book or reading about business, it all depends on what I'm feeling," Raisman says.

Pro Tip: This spring, Raisman's also set to release her own children's book about consent, "From My Head to My Toes." Raisman says she tried to think about what she wishes she knew or conversations she wishes she'd had with adults when she was younger. "I'm just hoping it will help normalize conversations or empower kids to know that it's important for them to ask questions."

When she jets off to a new location for work or play, Raisman likes having this Offline by Aerie Puff Love Tote Bag ($41, originally $55) in tow — along with a couple other travel essentials. "Usually in that tote bag, I'll have headphones so that I can listen to music or a podcast, I'll have some green tea, and I love herbal tea as well. I also like having essential oils because it smells good and relaxes me," Raisman says.

Pro Tip: The puffer tote isn't the only bag Raisman likes to keep with her when she's on the road; this sporty Offline by Aerie Makin' Moves Crossbody Bag is also a favorite.
