The newly opened Kyoto Ninei-zaka Yasaka Chayaten is the world’s first traditional Japanese-style Starbucks. Located within a two-story, century-old Japanese townhouse, the 3,000 square-foot store blends traditional Kyoto culture with the more familiar Starbucks experience. The building maintains its original design, with gardens in the front, back, and center featuring stone water basins, moss, and trees. Three tatami rooms can be found on the second floor, where customers can take their shoes off, relax, and enjoy their coffee.
