The location of this bloody battle is the Hotel Belvedere in Dubrovnik, Croatia. The luxury hotel was abandoned in 1991 when Serbian forces attacked during the Croatian War of Independence. The Battle of Blackwater might be Tyrion’s most tremendous fight. When his troops were ready to give in to Stannis Baratheon and his army, Tyrion rallies his men and finally achieves victory in King’s Landing.

The Battle of Blackwater was filmed at Fort Lovrijenac, also known as Dubrovnik’s Gibraltar. The fort, and theater, is located just outside the western wall of the ancient city. Not only is Fort Lovrijenac a wonderful filming location, but also it is one of Europe’s most distinguished stages. It often presents performances of William Shakespeare’s plays.

After Tyrion is freed by Jamie’s request, Varys lets Tyrion out of his crate. This scene is absolutely essential. It is when Varys suggests Tyrion travel with him on a journey to Meereen to join Daenerys.
