Explore the Area's Many Trails
Views from the top of Paulina Peak down to the caldera inside Newberry National Volcanic Monument, are epic. As are those around Obsidian Flow, a massive lava field where NASA astronauts have long logged some training hours thanks to its similarity to the moon's surface. The Deschutes National Forest and surrounding buttes are chock full of trailheads that will take you to mountain tops, pristine lakes, wildflower patches, and rocky landscapes. And don't forget that aforementioned lava tube.
