This Island in Italy Is the Next Instagram Hotspot (and It's Still Under the Radar)

The Amalfi Coast has long been a hotspot for the rich and famous (Kylie Jenner spent her 22nd birthday in the region in 2019). And while most tourists flock to Positano because it's the most iconic of the cities along the water, it's becoming overcrowded and more expensive in recent years as people discover this hotspot in the south of Italy. Thankfully, there's an alternative location that is just as beautiful and colorful, but without the crowds and high prices. Procida is a small island off the coast of Naples, and we think it'll be one of the next biggest Instagram hotspots. With rainbow buildings, gorgeous viewpoints, and peaceful beaches, it's exactly where you want to go for a perfect holiday in Italy. Keep reading for seven reasons it should be on your radar.

You Can Take the Ferry From Naples

It's extremely easy to get to Procida. From Naples, you can take a 45-minute ferry journey that takes you directly to the island. There are many sailings each day, so there's plenty of chances to get there and back. Prices vary from high to low season, so wait until September to visit for a cheaper ticket and less mainlanders to contend with.

You'll Stay in a Room With a View

The ferry will drop you off at the port, but the best part of the island to stay in is the Marina di Corricella. This will give you the best views and is the most iconic part of Procida. There's a majority of guest houses in this area for quite an affordable price, and you can wake up to the colorful buildings surrounding your room and the boat-filled harbor below.

You Can Indulge in the Local Seafood Dishes

If you are a fan of seafood, Procida will not disappoint. This region is known for large plates full of mussels, octopus, clams, shrimp, prawns, crab, and more, and for a price you would never see anywhere else. One of the top spots along the marina is Bar Ristorante La Graziella, where you can sip an Aperol Spritz and indulge in some Italian seaside cuisine.

You Can Explore the Quiet Streets

Like most of Italy, walking through Procida feels like stepping back in time. Because the island is still under the radar, you'll encounter mostly locals going about their day, so going on a jaunt through the roads and backstreets of the island will be peaceful and full of lovely buildings to explore.

You Can Visit the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo

At the top of the hill in Procida, you can find the Abbey of San Michele Arcangelo. This beautiful religious building is free to enter and has a breathtaking view of Mount Vesuvius in the distance. It's a must-see when visiting the island.

Near the Abbey, you can get the best view of Procida. From this observation deck, you can see the marina down below and the rainbow array of houses. It's the perfect Instagram photo spot!

You can't visit Italy without eating some gelato. You can find this sweet treat at many spots on the island, but the one with the best seating and view is in the marina at Bar Gelateria Artigianale Chiaro di Luna. Grab your favorite flavor, sit by the water, and enjoy a peaceful moment.
