Ikea's New Wedding Service Is Bizarre

Ikea has a new wedding service — not too surprising, right? Maybe you're imagining a consultant who can help you decorate on a budget? Well, you're wrong. It's a virtual feature called Wedding Online where couples can get married as long as they have a computer and an Internet connection. First, you choose the venue and decor (Magical forest? Done. Boat wedding? Of course.) and invite friends to join in via webcam. Everyone's faces then show up on top of virtual bodies.

"The best sort of love is easy and effortless. And promising one another eternal devotion at a wedding should be just as simple," says Ikea on its website. "That's why we've created a new type of wedding that's neither expensive nor complicated. Invite your friends – as many as you like and wherever they may be – and celebrate together via a video link."

It seems silly, but if you use a legitimate marriage officiant and have two witnesses in the same room for the ceremony, you can consider yourself an officially married couple. Each virtual venue is outfitted with Ikea products, which you can shop on the spot. Of course.
