The New Kindles Are Available Now
Sneaky, Amazon! Unlike some tech companies, Amazon unveiled its new line of 2014 Kindles and Kindle Fires with very little fanfare in September, and the new gadgets are officially shipping to customers' houses now. For hard-core readers, there's a brand-new high-resolution e-ink reader called the Kindle Voyage with a screen that looks legitimately amazing, and the entry-level Kindle that has been updated with a touchscreen. For avid movie and TV watchers, the entry-level Fire HD is cheaper and more powerful than before, the Fire HDX is thinner and faster, and there's now a Fire HD Kids edition that comes with a fantastic two-year "worry-free" warranty and a kid-proof case.
Overall, the upgrades aren't major, which is why Amazon probably didn't unveil the products with much theatrics. But, like we said, the new Kindle Voyage is definitely worth checking out, even if you already have a Kindle. Plus, Amazon undoubtedly wins in the price department. Kindles may not be compatible with as many apps, but they are significantly more wallet-friendly than Apple's tablet options.
