Sheryl Sandberg's Essay About Grief Is Gut-Wrenching, Honest, and Beautiful

In a heartbreaking and honest Facebook essay this morning, Sheryl Sandberg opened up about what the past 30 days have been like since losing her husband, Dave Goldberg. The SurveyMonkey CEO died at the age of 47 in May after falling off a treadmill while on vacation in Mexico and suffering from head trauma. Sandberg's post touches upon her heartbreak, what it's been like for her as a mother of children who lost a father, what others can do when someone they know is grieving, and, most of all, how people going through a similar experience can know that they're not alone.

"I am sharing what I have learned in the hope that it helps someone else. In the hope that there can be some meaning from this tragedy," writes the Facebook COO. "I have lived thirty years in these thirty days. I am thirty years sadder. I feel like I am thirty years wiser."

Shortly after Goldberg's death, Sandberg wrote a poignant Facebook post about the pair's relationship. Between the two essays, it's enough to finish an entire tissue box.
